August 2014
Seven weeks and counting I have received my letter confirming my operation and like before my HyCoSy I had under anaesthetic this letter included an information booklet containing information about what I need to bring to the hospital with me, what time to be at the hospital and when my last meal and drink the night before should be etc.
As I am writing our new kitten, Fernando, is making me smile by trying to play with the pages that I am writing on. He is so sweet, a tad shy but full of personality. Just the other week I was playing with him he looked up at me and saw that I was so tired and even though we has just got him and he was only 13 weeks old he just stopped and looked up at me as to say “It’s OK mum, we don’t have to play if you are not up to it” and he jumped up onto the sofa and settled down next to me as we both had a kip.
Six weeks and counting and I am feeling more and more nervous as the date gets closer to my operation. But on the good side I think the Prostrap injections have finally kicking in. Last week it felt that I was about to come on my period and have a bad flare up. However, thankfully neither of them appeared. In fact today is the first day that I have not had any bleeding (either period or spotting) since 6th June. That’s finally the end of 59 days of bleeding. I am still feeling fatigued though but hopefully I will start to get my energy back now that I am no longer bleeding, fingers crossed. Would you believe it if I told you that my fatigue is so bad that on my days off I am sleeping at least 10 hours a night and then in the afternoon I would have a 3 hour nap and still feel tired after a total of 13 hours sleep. It is harder to get the sleep that I could do with whilst I am at work but I will try and get as much as I can. Hopefully this will now start to ease now that I have finally stopped bleeding. Another thing that I wish would do one is these damn hot flushes one minuet I am stripping down to my bikini top then the next I am back to my normal temperature and wrapping myself up again only to be stripping off again the second I have wrapped myself up. I am constantly by a fan.
I received a letter telling me that I am due a SMEAR test again as it has been three years since my last test. How strange because no it has not been three years it has only been one year as I had all of the problems getting my test done what with my cervix being so high and the pain doing the test caused. On my pre-op appointment I shall ask about this letter and if they say that I will need it doing I think that I shall ask them to do it whilst I am under anaesthetic, as we all know what will have to happen again if I just waited until after my operation and after several attempts they will then suggest putting me under anaesthetic to do it. I will see what they have to say at my pre-op.
I have had my Prostrap for this month. Whilst in with the nurse we had a chat about the injections she asked how I was getting on with the injections. I told her that I was not doing too badly I mentioned about the bleeding that had just stopped finally and about the hot flushes. She told me that it was rare that a doctor would prescribe Prostrap for Endometriosis. It is normally prescribed to men with prostate cancer. Normally they prescribe something called Zoladex. Which what I can gather (please correct me if I am wrong) is an implant that gets injected into your stomach. The nurse said that she hates doing that one and given the option she would prefer the Prostrap injection if it was her. This makes me feel happier knowing that I am on the better medication.
Since my injection this month my left arm has been very achy and I have had a couple of days spotting. Oh and my hot flushes are still there. Just before my injection (about a week before) I had got rather emotional and the most simple thing would really get to me. Now four days after and I have settled down again.
We have just got home from a long weekend we went up to Edinburgh on the Thursday morning. Thursday evening we watched the Royal Edinburgh Tattoo it was amazing. We spent the next day in Edinburgh at the zoo and around the castle. We walked miles that day. On Saturday we travelled to York where we went to the York Ebor Race meeting, another long day. On Sunday we walked around York, went on a boat trip down the river ooze. We also went to York Minster where we went up to the top of the tower (a total of 275 steps). Because it is so narrow you have to do it in one go as there is no areas for people to pass you so if you were to stop to rest you would stop the people behind you, so we went up the tower in about 19 minutes. The views were worth every ounce of energy going up. You could see Edinburgh and London in the very far distance. We drove 880 miles from Thursday morning until Monday morning and a fair few miles walking as well. It was a really good few days away.
My spotting is getting worse again and my stomach had been bloated all day. I am feeling weak, fatigued and in general very uncomfortable. It is the feeling I get the day before I come on my period. I hope that it does not appear. Next week I have got my pre-op appointment on Friday, it is coming round too quickly now.
