September 2015
Sunday 6th September – Time goes by so quickly.
Sorry but did I blink? It is September already!! I am back to work full time and getting stronger each day. On Thursday it was our 4th wedding anniversary we had a lovely evening in, just the 2 off us and Fernando. We ordered a curry and had a bottle of champagne. Nothing could ruin our night even my Endometriosis behaved.
On Thursday I also had to have my Zoladex injection. I did feel a bit run down due to this. It feels a bit like I am coming down with the flu or a very bad cold but nothing will materialize. That has now settled down but the hot flushes and insomnia have now kicked back in again. Hopefully it will all settle down again as the month goes on just like last month.
I have changed my swimming venue as well as the place where I was going before would almost always be closed when I wanted to go and the changing rooms were often dirty. I only had the swimming membership which was £22. The place that I have changed to only do all inclusive memberships which is more than double the price I was paying before but it includes the use of the heated pool (always 29◦c with an air temperature of 30◦c), Jacuzzi, sauna, steam room, all classes and the gym. I had my quick start this morning which is where you see a member of staff tell them what you want to get out of the gym and they will work out a personal routine. I told my instructor that I wanted to concentrate on my abdominal muscles as they have been weakened due to my surgeries (3 in 12 months) as well as increasing my general fitness. He showed me how to get the best out of the watt bike, running and rowing machines followed by some core and trunk exercises. I was very surprised as was my instructor about my plank, which I managed to do for 1 minuet. He sait that I am fitter than I give myself credit for and that he could tell that before my surgeries I did have some level of fitness. As well as doing a plank I done a plank with leg lifts and knee tuck, my side planks need a bit more work. I done several other exercises. I am planning on doing several classes. Alternating between 3 (yoga, pilates, water aerobics) I was also advised to also concentrate on my swimming as that will help me a lot.
I do feel a tad sore now but I am sure that it is all worth it. Yesterday after work I managed a 3.75 mile walk in 1 hour 5 minutes. I feel like I can achieve something and determined that Endometriosis will not break me.
If you think about it 8 weeks ago I was unable to get out of my hospital bed without a nurse or care assistant helping me and was unable to even wash myself and look at me now going to the gym. After my quick start I managed to do 14 lengths in the 20 meter pool.
Friday 18th September 2015 – Zoladex spotting.
It is all go at work and I have managed an hour session in the gym after work followed by 18 lengths in the pool. Whilst sitting in the sauna someone said to me that I looked like a good swimmer and that my stroke was smooth. This made me feel good especially as I have bot long got back into swimming and seeing where I was a few months ago. I almost did not go swimming as earlier today I had a bit of light pink spotting and because I have not bled this far into Zoladex before I did not have any “woman’s bits” with me, thankfully it was only when I wiped and has stopped now, I will keep an eye on it and mention it to my consultant in 2 weeks’ time.
Monday 28th September 2015 – A good appointment.
This weekend has been one full of mixed emotions. On Saturday we had some sad news that my great aunt passed away at the age of 89. On Sunday we had a family get together with my husbands side of the family as his aunt and uncle were over from Spain. It was lovely to see everyone. And then there was my consultant appointment today. For once we were pleasantly surprised and were called in 30 minutes early, normally they are running late. We had a chat about how I was doing and where we wanted to go from here. He agrees that one more IVF would be ok and has advised that it happens sooner than later. He showed us the most pictures of my insides which are a real mess everything is stuck to everything else, but my liver is perfect. He did say that he would love to have done more to help clear up the endometriosis mess but he could not because it would affect my fertility which is already low due to the endometriosis and at the moment that is not an option but eventually it will be required. I did ask him if that meant hysterectomy. He replied by saying that eventually I may need one to help with the endometriosis but there are other steps first. He has advised me to get a scan before the fertility treatment to check for any more endometriomas and that we could have it either on the NHS or at Nuffield. We said that as Nuffield would probably want to do a scan anyway before the fertility treatment started that we would just get it done privately instead of on the NHS. We also discussed that coming off Zoladex would probably put me back in hospital and as I am not having too many major side effects that I should stay on it for now.
Since I got home I have phoned Nuffield to tell them that my consultant at Frimley Park has given me the go ahead to continue with the IVF cycle. They will pass my notes onto my consultant there and will phone me up on Wednesday with an appointment on when to start.
It is good to see that Endometriosis has finally hit the front pages on one of the national papers The Guardian has done an article about endometriosis, on the front page and then it continues on a whole page inside then goes onto yet another page a bit further on in the paper. This is excellent that finally someone if taking notice about this evil disease.
